CGMiner Review

CGMiner is one of the oldest console mining software on the market.

The CGMiner’s performance is among the best in the business, and that’s one of the reasons for its popularity.

Some of the notable CGMiner’s features:

• full statistics of your mining operation
• supports multiple devices
• can be used on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
• multiple pools supported
• remote control
• overclocking and fan speed control

How to install CGMiner on Windows

First, go to the download page and download version 3.7.2.

If you don’t need GPU support, you can download the newer version, but 3.7.2 is the latest version that supports GPU mining.

Once you do, the file “cgminer-3.7.2-windows.rar” should be on your PC.

Extract it in the same folder:

Once you have the list of files, you need to create one more file with the .bat extension.

This file will contain the mining pool details and your wallet address.

On this PC, I have a single graphics card, so Bitcoin mining isn’t possible.

So to demonstrate how to use CGMiner, I will mine Litecoin.

Create a new file called “ltc.bat”, and open it in Notepad++, Notepad, or a similar plain file editor.

The exact instructions will depend on the pool you use, in this case, I’ve used litecoinpool.org.

Once registered there, you can go to the help page and get the pool URL as well as your username and password.

In my case, the instructions for “ltc.bat” are looking like this:

cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://litecoinpool.org:3333 -u bms2022.1 -p 1

save the file, then double-click to run it.

If all is good, CGMiner should start mining with your GPU:
